Fiji’s climate is tropical year round and the Fijiians are some of the friendliest people in the world, welcoming visitors with music, flowers and smiles to show their joy in sharing their island home. Most vacation travelers will fly from Los Angeles to the Nadi international airport, gateway to all the popular tourist destinations in Fiji.

The main island of Viti Levu has a broad selection of activities including river rafting, waterfall hikes, jet boats, scuba diving, village tours, caves, shopping and day trips to other islands. Accommodations center around Nadi and Denarau Island, the Coral Coast and Pacific Harbour, the adventure capital of Fiji.  Here accommodations include standard hotel rooms, beach and garden bures or bungalows and luxury villas with prices from $100 night to over a $1000 night.

The smaller outer islands include the Mamanuca, Yasawa, Taveuni and Northern islands. Here you’ll find lovely beaches and a more private, “get away from it all” experience. Most of the outer islands are small and there is often only one resort on a given island.  So it’s important to pick the right spot!  Some island resorts are adult only and all about romance, others are family focused and still others a great place for young active singles. 

Activities in the Mamanucas and Yasawas include snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, scuba diving, fishing, waterskiing and wave runners.  In the north you can add hiking, horseback riding and other land activities.

Other Fiji resorts such as Castaway and Jean Michel Cousteau are great for a family vacation with kids clubs, nannies and plenty of activities to keep everyone happy.  Paradise Taveuni and Uprising are two great choices for divers.   

The cost for a typical Fiji vacation starts around $5000 for two people including airfare from the west coast and 5-7 nights accommodations but there have been fabulous deals recently.  But beware, some “deals” feature low season pricing and resorts far from the beach, so it’s best to work with an expert that will help you find the real values.
